Under overcast skies, a full field of 120 players set out at the beautiful Barwon Heads golf course, eager to contest the Victorian Family Championships once again.
The field was a mixture of regular Family Championship contestants and some first timers to the event.
The popularity of the day was evident in the distance some players had travelled to take part.
Places in the field are valued with the 120 spots taken up swiftly after the event opens for entries.
Conditions were in stark contrast to last year when thunder & lightning drove players off the course twice during the afternoon.
Some 26 couples contested the mixed event with Paul & Sharon McClusky from Ballarat taking the trophy with 42 points.
Narrowly behind was Jan & Matt Boulton, Lakeside Ladies & Royal Park members respectively, who finished on 41 points
The Men’s section was even closer as Gary and Ross Dickson from Gisborne & RACV Cape Schanck, saluted on 45 points.
They would be victorious on a count back from Colin and Gary Barnes from Commonwealth & Keysborough respectively who finished on the same score.
The Women’s division contested by a smaller field of just 10 pairs saw the best score of the day.
Lorinda & Bettine Hartley from Peninsula Kingswood & GSM Golf respectively stormed home with 48 points with Caroline & Ruth Dickins the next best on 42 points.
All players enjoyed the facilities & hospitality of the friendly Barwon Heads team.
Presentations were made with the majority of the field staying to acclaim the winners ensuring a great atmosphere.
