Jo Watts has charged to a commanding lead after round one of the 2019 Trimax Victorian Women’s Sand Greens Championship at Avoca Golf Club.
The Murray Downs member took a liking to the Avoca sand scrapes, claiming she “putted a treat” on her way to an impressive 75 off the stick.
Watts’ round was highlighted by a birdie on the iconic par-three second hole.
Trailing Watts by eight shots in second place is four-time champion Helen Leech (Neangar Park) on 83 and Jo-Anne McPhee (Gisborne) is a further two shots back on 85.
In the handicap divisions, Angela Broadbent and Venita Walder hold slender leads in B and C divisions respectively.
The official tournament dinner will be held at the club tonight before play resumes for round two tomorrow morning.
