World rankings kick off in Queensland

The World Rankings for Golfers with a Disability (WR4GD) will make its start in 2019 with the first ranking event under the R&A and USGA controlled rankings at Redcliffe Golf Club next month.

The 36-hole Queensland Inclusive Championship will be held on March 24-25, under the EDGA Tournament format of stroke play for golfers with a handicap bellow 18.5 (GA) and 18.6+ is a stableford format.

It’s the first event under the control of World Amateur Golf Rankings or WAGR who took over the administering of the rankings from EDGA on January 1 this year.

A significant step in joining all the national federations around the world to grow participation of disabled golf, the rankings also enable golfers to follow a high-performance pathway that lead to events such as the Australian All Abilities Championship and the EGA run European Stroke play Championship.

Senior Manager of Inclusion, Christian Hamilton expects more players from more countries getting involved in our domestic events.

“We are already seeing a lot of interest in the rankings with players traveling great lengths to play events for ranking points”. Hamilton said.

“Plenty of talented golfers out there are all good enough to hunt down that number 1 position on the rankings, I think you will see more players getting to these ranking events to improve their ranking”. Hamilton added.

A talented line up of players includes Belgium’s Cedric Lescut, a former player on the Challenge Tour in Europe who is coming back off a lengthy break to work on his charity Android34.

Cedric’s new goal: To get to World number 1.

He will be met with some tough competition by the Australian line up of Shane Luke (NSW, World #6), Geoff Nicholas (NSW, World #8) and Australian All Abilities Championship competitors, Cameron Pollard (NSW) and Stephen Prior (NSW) to name a few.
