Your chance to play Broken Hill

A new addition to the GV Golf Program for 2016 is the Men’s and Women’s Broken Hill Open Amateur to be played over 36-holes stroke play on the afternoon of Friday 21 and morning of Saturday 22 October.

The Broken Hill Golf Club is a magnificent 18-hole course, five minutes from the heart of one of Australia’s most captivating outback towns. The excellent couch fairways; bent grass greens and quality hole designs are contrasted by the red earth of its Australian desert backdrop and the local native wildlife of kangaroos, emus, lizards, wombats and the occasional turtle present across the layout.

Founded in 1883, Broken Hill is home to the world's largest silver, lead and zinc mine, established by Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited (now BHP Billiton). The town is also known for its thriving arts community and access to outback adventure. Noted artists Pro Hart and Jack Absalom were based in Broken Hill with the Pro Hart Gallery and Sculpture Park remaining one of the must see highlights. One of over 30 galleries in and around Broken Hill, the gallery contains a large collection of Hart's paintings and sculptures, as well as many artworks of others that he collected during his lifetime. The gallery also features the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow that he painted in his unique style.

Broken Hill also offers mining tours and museums] as well as many other experiences including visiting sites that may seem familiar via movies filmed in the area over the past 40 years. Many big-budget films such as Mad Max 2 and Priscilla – Queen of the Desert have been shot in Broken Hill and in nearby Silverton, the latter including the quirky ‘Mad Max’ museum. Eating out options at restaurants such as Trinders in the AstraMasallas Indian Cuisineand The Piano Bar and Restaurantprovide plenty of variety, and it's a great base for exploring the stunning national parks of Outback NSW, including Sturt National ParkMungo National Park] and Gundabooka National Park.

Accommodation in Broken Hill ranges from elegantly restored hotels to campsites – providing plenty of options for all visitors. In 2015, Broken Hill was also the first city in Australia to be included on the National Heritage list due to its outstanding heritage significance to the country.
