The 2008 MFS Australian Men&aposs Mid Amateur Championship will be played from January 15 – 17 at The National Golf Club’s Ocean Course. The Australian Men’sMid Amateur Champion will again receive direct entry into the 2008 MFS Australian Open. Entries have been extended until January 4th. As part of Golf Australia&aposs long term strategy to develop golf at a grassroots level, this initiative provides amateur golfers the opportunity to compete against the greats at the 2008 MFS Australian Open. Not only will it develop the competitors&apos game, but will also provide a memorable experience. Justin Shine, the 2007 MFS Australian Men’sMid Amateur Champion recently competed in the 2007 MFS Australian Open in what he described as a once in a lifetime experience . Justin was fortunate enough to play with Marcus Fraser and Terry Price over the first two rounds, experiencing tournament golf from inside the ropes . One highlight for Justin was spending time practicing his chipping on the practice green, and sharing the practice area with one of Australia s best golfers, Stuart Appleby. If the opportunity to play in the 2008 MFS Australian Open is not encouragement enough, there is the opportunity to play at a world class facility in tournament conditions, competing amongst your peers to win a National Championship. Trevor Herden, Manager of Tournaments and Championships, Golf Australia said, “Forty percent of Australian male golfers are between the ages of 30 and 50 and this is a specially tailored event, with a great reward on offer for a demographic that is a major contributor to our game.” Eligibility for the Championship is for male golfers aged between 30 and 54 with a handicap of 5.4 or less. Once again, MFS has continued its support of Australian golf at all levels. Enter on-line at www.golfaustralia.org.au. CLICK HERE for Event Information
