2011 Women’s Autumn Meeting

5 May 2011, Report for Day 4 Teams V Par Thursday 5 May saw the Teams V Par events held at both Gold Creek and Belconnen Golf Courses. The day broke with a chill in the air but this didn t stop the competitors at both events enjoying an 8.00am shot gun start. There was around 64 players participating at each event and by all accounts players had a fun final day of play for the tournament. The winning team at Belconnen had a blistering + 17 for their win, the team players, Kerrie Branch (Woolooware 27h/cp), Judith Shade (Kogarah 26h/cp), Carol Paige (Woolooware 23h/cp) and Fay Selwood (Pacific QLD 19h/cp) were all pleased with playing so well and congratulated all the other teams. Second place was two shots behind with a +15 and third place came in with a +14. At Gold Creek Golf Course it was obvious that it played a little tougher as the winning score was a +10 with runner up and 3rd placed teams both finishing with a +9 on a countback. The winning team of Julia Christie (32h/cp), Julie Bennett (37h/cp), Michelle Crowe (31h/cp) and Margaret Navaro (35h/cp) were all from Mona Vale Golf Club. Both first and second placed teams were from Mona Vale Golf Club, so it appears that the Mona Vale players enjoy playing at Gold Creek and no doubt will be back again in 2012 to play in the Autumn Meeting . 4 May 2011, Report for Day 3 Foursomes On Wednesday 4 May Division One, Foursomes were played at Gold Creek Country Club and Division Two was played at Vikings Capital Golf Course. The weather was fine, if a little brisk, with both course presented in good condition. All players enjoyed the hospitality of the pro shop and club facilities at both courses. The scratch winners of Division One were the pairing of Deborah Bennett (Pennant Hills, 5 h/cp) and Pauleen Jeffery (Royal Canberra,12 h/cp) scoring 84. Winning the nett was Esma Kennedy (Yowani, h/cp 24) and Vera Krizaic (Belconnen, 22 h/cp) with 73, obviously a little local knowledge was valuable for these Canberra girls. Winning the scratch in Division Two was Margaret Blattman 20 h/cp and Carole McConnell 32 h/cp both from Glenmore Heritage Valley Golf Club scoring a solid score of 100. They were closely followed by Vicki Withford (24 h/cp) and Jenny Nelson (28 h/cp) both from Woolooware Golf Club who scored a 101 scratch. Vicki and Jenny were successful in winning the nett with a 75. Runner up in the nett with a 77 was the pairing of Judy Kent (Pymble 26 h/cp) and Pamela Barker (Bowral 26 h/cp). 3 May 2011, Report for Day 2 There were 168 players at the Presentation Dinner on Tuesday 3 May at Yowani Country Club to see the winners from days one and two receive their prizes. Jocelyn MaKay won the Division One, ACT Championship Cup. Jocelyn, from Moss Vale Golf Club, has been competing in the event for the many years and has won the event three times in 1988, 1990 and 1991. This year Jocelyn shot a 79 at Federal and a 78 at Murrumbidgee for a total of 157 of the stick. Jocelyn was unable to attend the presentation however had her representative accept the trophy on her behalf. She stated that “Jocelyn was thrilled to again win the trophy after 20 years”. Runner up Nicky Moon from Federal shot a 78 and 82 for 160 which was a great effort. Nicky was happy with her game and was looking forward to playing again in next year s tournament. Winner of Division Two, The Seat of Government Cup was Naseem Walton from Pymble Golf Club who had a blistering score of 185, six ahead of runner up Jennifer Richards from Wyong Golf Club. Naseem said “it was a great honour to achieve a win at the event and was speechless at having played so well to win”. Patricia Wickham from Kiama Golf Club was the winner of the Division Three trophy, The Inaugural Autumn Salver, donated by Wakehurst Women’s Golf. Patricia had a total of 74 points of a 38 handicap to win the event and at presentation stated that she appreciated playing the courses in Canberra and praised the green staff for their good condition. Full Results Prize Winners 2 May 2011, Report for Day 1 Division 1 plus to 21.4 – Federal Golf Club Federal Golf Course presented in superb condition. Three players are in contention for the ACT Championship Cup after Day One. Nicky Moon (Federal) and Lauren Stensrud (Queanbeyan) both scored a 78 and previous winner, Jocelyn MacKay (Moss Vale) scored a 79. Division 2 21.5 28.4 Royal Canberra Golf Club Royal Canberra Golf Club hospitality to players and officials was fantastic today. The greens were playing fast, causing a few difficulties for competitors. Robyn McClurg (Wakehurst) is leading the scratch with 91 and winning the nett today was Naseem Walton (Pymble) H/cp 24 had 69 nett. The field is open at this stage to win the Seat of Government Cup. Division 3 28.5 to 45 Yowani Country Club The Yowani course was in magnificent condition, the green keepers doing a great job on both the fairways and greens. Leading by two points is Diane Soetens H/cp 29 (Kooindah Waters) with 40 points, closely followed by Carolyn Morgan H/cp 34 (Bayview) on 38 points. Carolyn was the winner of Division 3 Summer Salver at the Golf NSW Women’s Summer Meeting this year. Carolyn is obviously playing well and is one to watch at this event. 1 May 2011, Pre-event article The 2011 Women&aposs Autumn meeting is being held on Monday 2 through to Thursday 4 May in Canberra at Federal, Royal Canberra, Murrumbidgee, Queanbeyan, Gungahlin Lakes, Gold Creek, Vikings Capital, Belconnen and Yowani Golf Clubs. The event has been held since 1933 and this year has attracted 210 women golfers from around the state. Three time winner of Division One, The ACT Championship Cup, Lynne Townsend is again contesting the event, Lynne won in 2010 and will be looking for back to back wins in the event. The Women’s Autumn Meeting format consists of four days of golf. Days one & two are 18-hole scratch events in three Divisions. Day three is a Foursomes event and day four is a Best Ball v Par Teams event. The draw for the event is semi seeded for Days one and two with players nominating their playing partners on days three and four. The Presentation Dinner is always an enjoyable evening and this year it is again at Yowani Country Club on Tuesday 3 May. Yowani Golf Club and its Women’s Committee are always welcoming to visitors and the 2011 presentation should be no exception. Golf NSW is committed to promoting and encouraging the game of golf and believes this tournament is a great way for all women golfers to compete at all levels.
