Day 3 – Foursomes at Bexley Golf Club Thursday 8 September 2011 Full Tournament Prize Winners – Full Results – Foursomes The joint winners of the Vera Rankin Trophy, Division One, are Jocelyn MacKay and Sally Bailey from Moss Vale and Sue Reguson and Jodie Rockliff from Coolangatta Tweed both scoring a 79 scratch. Both pairs were present for the trophy presentation following the game and Jocelyn MacKay congratulated the other pair and her partner for playing better than her. Joint Winners in the Vera Rankin Trophy for the Foursomes held at Bexley Golf Club Thursday 8 September The nett winners in Division One were Jenny Hardy, Camden Haven and Gwyn Perry from Port Macquarie (H/cp 23 ), scoring a 63 nett. Runners up were Julie Jenkins and Barbara Beveridge from Cootamundra (H/cp 23 ) with a 64 nett. Division Two scratch winners from Grafton with an 88 scratch were Noelene Smith and Enid Dougherty, coming in close behind to take out the runner up prize was the pairing of Margot Owen and Margaret Webb from Goulburn 90c/b. Noelene and Enid stated at presentation that they had an enjoyable tournament and loved the camaraderie of the Country Meeting ! Divsion Two winners ot the foursomes Noelene Smith and Enid Dougherty both from Grafton The nett winners today in Division Two were Sue McLeod, Port Macquarie and Jean Ramsey from Camden Haven (H/cp 32) scored 62 nett. Coming in close behind were runners up Margaret Hall, Grafton and Coral Walker from Everglades (H/cp 31 ) with a 62 . The Bexley Golf Course is very picturesque and the views from the club house are spectacular, considering the course is situated in the centre of Sydney the well-established trees and gardens cover the surrounding roof tops. The Green keeper had the tiered sloping greens running at 9 on the stint metre therefore to produce a winning score today, putting was the key. The players took to the course for the 8.00am shot gun start after a scrumptious morning tea which was kindly baked and provided by the Bexley women’s committee. Presentation following the game was well supported with all players remaining to see the winners receive their awards. The &aposGirls from Young&apos on course at Bexley Golf Club Day Two of the 36-hole event Prize Winners Full Results The day was perfect for the final day of the 36-hole 2011 Women’s Country Meeting. Julia Boland was successful in winning the Division One, Mabel McKenzie Cup with a 153 off the stick. Scores of 75 at Cronulla and 78 at Woolooware Golf Clubs sealed the win. Julia will represent NSW in the Interstate Series commencing next week at Perth. Julia was at the presentation to receive her trophy and stated that this would probably be one of her last events as an amateur before she takes on her professional golf status. Julia congratulated all the winners of the tournament and especially thanked her proud Dad for caddying for her at Woolooware on the final day. Julia Boland – Winner of the Division One Mabel McKenzie Cup for 2011 Runner up in the scratch was Elizabeth Graham from Griffith who shot a 172. The nett winner in Division One was Rhonda Robertson from Gosford who shot a 150 off an 18h/cp. Rhonda also took out the Division One section of the Una Clift Bowl. Runner up from Camden Haven was Jenny Hardy, h/cp 17 with a 152. The winner of Division Two and winner of the Rose Payten Trophy was Robyn Lunn from Morisset shooting a 202. Runner-up was Lyn Robertson from Nelson Bay who was close behind with a 203. Both players stated at presentation that they had enjoyed the event and found both Cronulla and Woolooware very good courses but “a bit difficult to navigate”. The Marie Chapman Trophy for Division Three was taken out by Goulburn player Desma Carter with a total for the 36-holes of 70 points. Desma is off a 38 h/cp and stated at presentation that she was especially excited to win after many years of practice in the event. Runner-up was Irene Callaghan from Belmont with 66 off 29 h/cp, while third place went to Coral Walker form Everglades Country Club with 64 on count back. Fourth place was Jeanette Walters from Belmont also with 64. The Presentation was well received with the majority of the 120 players remaining for a buffet and drinks. Sue Fabian, Deputy Chairman of Golf NSW and Sandra Gillies, Chairman of the Women’s Match Committee, presented the trophies to some very excited winners. Sue made special mention of competitor Heather Robinson from Grafton who has attended the Country Meeting now for 36 years. Heather commented later that she will be back in 2012 to make it 37 times! Winners from this year Women&aposs Country Meeting Day One of the 36 hole event The 2011 Women’s Country Meeting commenced today at Cronulla Golf Club with 120 competitors from the Country Districts across NSW. Division One winner of the 18-hole event today was Julia Boland from Tamworth Golf Club shooting a 75 scratch win. This also put her in the lead for the 36-hole event, The Mabel McKenzie Cup. Julia is off a handicap of +2 and has just returned from golf training in the US. Leading the pack in Division Two for the Rose Payton Trophy is Noelene Smith from Grafton with a 94 scratch. The nett winner, Mary Anne Perry won with 71 on a close countback from the scratch leader, Noelene Smith who also scored a nett 71. Runner up in the prize winners for nett was Kate Cooper from Young who had a nett 75. The Marie Chapman Trophy (Division 3) leader is Desma Carter of a 38 handicap from Goulburn with a tremendous 42 points. Runner up went to Moya O Brien form Coffs Harbour with 37 points and third place was Irene Callaghan from Belmont with 36 points. Scores today were quite good thanks to the challenging but well-presented Cronulla Golf Course. Given the recent heavy rains the course was in exceptional condition and full marks must go to the Cronulla Greenkeeper and his staff. Tomorrow will conclude the 36-hole singles component of the Women’s Country Meeting with a shot gun start at 12.15pm at Woolooware Golf Club. All players were glad to see the sunshine today and off course are hoping for the same for tomorrow s 18-hole event. Prize Winners – Day One Full Results – Day One Players finishing at the 18th on Monday 5 September THE WOMEN S COUNTRY MEETING FORMAT The 2011 Women’s Country Meeting will be held over three days in September, Monday 5 at Cronulla Golf Club, Tuesday 6 at Woolooware Golf Club and Thursday 8 at Bexley Golf Club. This event is run by Golf NSW, and was developed exclusively for Country Women to participate and experience some of the more challenging Sydney Metropolitan golf courses. It is held at different venues each year to highlight and provide participation to as many Sydney Courses as possible. Each year the Host Clubs welcome the country players and their city hospitality at the events is nothing short of fantastic. Each year the tournament has a lay day and this year falls on Wednesday 7 September. The competitors have time to take in some of the many theatre shows and restaurants in Sydney, not-to-mention the shopping expeditions to the many fashion warehouses and the big store Pre-Christmas Spring Sales. The format for the first two days of play at Cronulla and Woolooware are Divisions One and Two, 36-hole stroke, while Division 3 play a 36-hole Stableford event. The third and final day at Bexley is a Foursomes event which will be held in two divisions. Divisions for the event are determined after the close of entries. The Women’s Country Meeting is open to all female amateur golfers who hold a current handicap and are a member of a Golf NSW Country District Golf Club. The history of the Women’s Country Meeting goes back to 1957 and the tournament has been held annually since then. The event has seen many notable winners over the years but none better than the present Division One winner, Julie Swanson from Newcastle Golf Club. Julie has had a strangle hold on the event, winning the last seven consecutive years. She will be back again this year to compete for an astonishing eighth title. There are a number of prizes awarded, including daily (18-hole) scratch and nett winners, as well as the overall trophies. The Division One perpetual trophy is named after Mabel Mackenzie in appreciation of her many years of service towards the promotion of Women’s Golf NSW. The trophy for Division Two is The Vera Rankin Trophy, and a new Division Three trophy was introduced last year, The Marie Chapman Trophy. This trophy was named after Marie Chapman, a distinguished figure in the South Coast region of NSW. An inspiration at ninety years old in 2006, Marie was still playing golf and competing.
