2011 WOMEN’S MOUNTAIN MEETING

Day Four – Thursday 20 October – Teams V Par Prize Winners – Teams V Par Full Results Teams V Par Both Katoomba and Leura Golf Clubs hosted the Teams V Par event with approximately 110 players at each course. For the final day the Blue Mountains again put on a picturesque spring day and players and clubs alike appreciated our good luck! Wakehurst, Wakehurst, Wakehurst was the order of the day with all 3 places going to them at Katoomba and at Leura Running in second place sandwiches between two Bayview teams. The shot of the day went to Alison Grant from The Australian who made the 17th green, par 4, 257 meters, in one. Alison is of a 23h/cp so this had the club house a buzz at Katoomba, to say nothing of here very happy winning team mates.!! Day Three Wednesday 19 October 2011 Foursomes and Trophy Presentation at Leura Golf Club Full Prize Winners – Foursomes Full Results – Foursomes Division One, Foursomes Event hit off at Wentworth Falls on another spectacular Spring Day in the Blue Mountains. The scratch winners, Truda Rail of Strathfield Golf Club and her partner Gillian Virginie found the quick greens not problem at all and were able to score 88 on the day. Runners up in the scratch were Deborah Nunn and Sachiko Cathcart both from Wakehurst scoring 90 of the stick. Winning the nett section of the foursomes went to Michele Lee (34h/cp) of Terrigal and Eustacian Douglas from Wakehurst the pair scored a 70c/b from Dianah Latreille (32h/cp) and Elaine Walker (28h/cp) from Bayview Golf Club. Division Two, Foursomes was held Leura Golf Club and the scratch winners were Anne Mitchell and Kerrie Branch both from Woolooware with a 101 of the stick. Runners up, Jacqui MacDougall and Joan Hartman both from Wakehurst were unlucky as they lost on a countback with the same great score of 101. Taking out the nett win was the Chatswood pair of Ruth Boylan (39) and Pauline Haigh of Chatswood Golf Club with a 68 on a countback and again runners up pair of Barbara Webster (33) and Susan Cooper(35) from Wakehurst were unlucky as they also scored a 68. Trophy Presentation at Blackheath Golf Club Wednesday 19 October. The players were welcomed by the President of Blackheath Golf Club, Dianna Lamburge on behalf of her club and all the Host Clubs for the 2011 Mountain Meeting. Sue Fabian, Deputy Chairman of Golf NSW Board of Directors then spoke on the ongoing success of the merger between the Men’sGolf Association and Women’s Golf NSW. Joint winners of the Yallambee Cup, Kerrie Davis (Wentworth Falls) and Melissa Williamson, (Lynwood) both congratulated Golf NSW on a well-run tournament and also complemented all of the host venues on their course presentation and condition. Melissa thanked her grandmother for her assistance and encouragement throughout the event. Kerrie Davis went on to tell all that she felt this was the best weather ever presented for the Mountain Meeting and thanked who ever had organised such glorious days. The winner of the Blue Mountains Salver, Jill Varty from Vincentia stated it s a thrill to win such an event and went on to thank the hospitality of the clubs in the Blue Mountains district and congratulate all the other winners. Jill Varty from Vincentia was the outright winner of the Megalong Valley Trophy and a very excited but a little speechless, Jill thanks the organisers and all the competitors for a great three days of competition golf. Jill when on to state the Vincentia Girls will be back in 2012 Day Two Tuesday 18 October Completion of the 36-hole Singles Events 18-holes in conjunction Prize Winners -Tuesday 18 October and 36 Holes Full Results-36-holes Kerry Davis of Wentworth Falls and Melissa Williamson from Lynwood were both successful as Joint Winners of 2011 The Yallambee Cup for Division One. The Division One second day was played at Katoomba Golf Club which was in perfect condition for the final round of the 36-hole single stroke event of the Mountain Meeting. Winning the 36-hole Nett was Philippa Parker (24h/cp) from Monash with a run-away score of 130 nett. The Runner up was Jan Reid (22h/cp) of Wakehurst with a very close 138 on a countback from Brenda Williamson of Lynwood and Eustacia Douglas, Wakehurst. The daily winner of the 18-hole scratch was Melissa Williamson and running a close second was her Mum, Brenda Williamson and Debbie Nunn. The nett winner was Phillipa Parker nett 64 and runner-up was Deb Northwood from Lynwood on 66 nett. The Division Two final round was played at Wentworth Falls and the winner of the 36-hole Blue Mountains Salver Falls was Jill Varty from Vincentia with a score of 191 and runner up in the scratch was Lynne Amos from Manly with 196. Jill Varty also had the best nett score of 137 followed by Elaine Scullion- Stewart (30h/cp) from Leura scoring a 139 nett and Lynne Amos (27h/cp) from Manly and Eden Chan of Wakehurst both scored 142. The Division Three, Megalong Valley Trophy s final round was played at Blackheath today and the 36-hole stableford event winner was Ann Davies (36h/cp) from NSW Golf Club with a spectacular score of 88 points, 44 points for each day of the event. Runner-up for the event was Jill Higgins of Cammeray (36h/cp) with a total of 76 points and Dianna Jefferson(39h/cp) of Wakehurst had 74points. Chris Amery placed fourth on a handicap of 35 scored a total of 73 points. The 18-hole winner at Blackheath Golf Club was again, Anne Davies 44 stableford points and runner-up was Chris Amery scoring 40 points. Third place was Jennifer Birrell fro m Wakehurst 38h/cp with 39points. The Blue Mountains put on the perfect Spring Day, with no fog or mist about hit off at all three courses on day one of the tournament went without delay. Division One hit off at Leura Golf Club, Division Two at Blackheath and Division Three kick off at Katoomba. All of the three golf courses presented well and the hospitality from the committees and staff at each of the Host Venues was welcomed by officials and competitors alike. The winner of Division One nett was Anne Mitchell (25h/cp) from Wakehurst shooting a 65 nett (AWCR 69), runner up was Philippa Parker (24h/cp) from Monash with a 66c/b and the scratch was taken out by Kerry Davis who scored a blistering 77 of the stick, setting herself up to defend her last years title win of the Yallambee Cup. Division Two nett winner was a very excited Rana Wingrove from Wakehurst with a score fantastic of 63 (AWCR 70) and nett runner up with a 64 was Elaine Scullion-Stewart. The scratch winner Terry Bouman from Bayview achieved a solid score of 92 to carry into round two tomorrow. Division Three winner, from NSW Golf Club was Ann Davies had 44 points of a handicap of 36 (AWCR 68) and running in second place was with an excellent score of 38c/b was Michelle Lee (34h/cp) from Terrigal Coming in for third place on a count back as well was Kay Coote (35h/cp) from Balgowlah. It will be a tight contest in tomorrow s final round for the 36 hole single stableford event as Jill Higgins from Cammeray and Diana Jefferson from Wakehurst also finished with 38 points. Tournament Overview The 2011 Women’s Mountain Meeting is to be played at Katoomba, Blackheath, Leura and Wentworth Falls Golf Clubs from Monday 17 to Thursday 20 October 2011 Event Information Divsion one at Leura Golf Club, Monday 17 October 2011 From the left, Melissa Williamson, Kerry Davis, last years tournament winner and Nancy Chan. The Women’s Mountain Meeting is one of the longest running and most popular tournaments on the Golf NSW women’s calendar. The Mountain Meeting began in 1930 and was won by Mrs D. O Brien who received The Yallambee Cup and then in 1970, after event participation numbers expanded, The Blue Mountains Salver for Division Two was introduced, this trophy was donated in appreciation by the Blue Mountains District Council. As recently as the year 2000, The Megalong Valley trophy was introduced for Division Three players, who support and enjoy the Mountain Meeting in ever increasing numbers each year. Last year The Yallambee Cup was won by Kerry Davis from the Wentworth Falls Golf Club and if Kerry has time of from her job at the Blue Mountains Tourist Bureau she will be a contender for this year s title. The Wakehurst Golf Club is usually well represented with both the Blue Mountains Salver and the Megalong Valley trophies being taken home in 2010 by Wakehurst members, Marjorie Davids and Suzanne Rees. The format begins on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 with 36-hole stroke play for Divisions one and two with 36-hole stableford for Division 3. On Wednesday 19 the Foursomes are held in two divisions and on the final day, Thursday 20, a four person Teams V Par Event completes the tournament. Players can nominate to play in all four days of play or play in individual days of their choice. Golf NSW is happy to assist competitors to find a partner for the foursomes or complete a team of four for the Teams event.
