2012 Men�s & Women�s Victorian Foursomes � Closing Date Extended

The Men’s and Women’s Victorian Amateur Foursomes Championships have undergone a facelift and from 2012 onwards will see both titles played concurrently. This year’s Championships will be played over 36-holes on the St John course at The Heritage Golf & Country Club on Sunday 28th October. The closing date has been extended and entries will be accepted until Friday 19th October. The entry fee of $88 per pair includes lunch.

The Men’s Foursomes Championship was first played in 1903 with previous winners including Ivo Whitton (1920, 1923, 1934 & 1936), Stuart Appleby (1992), and Stephen Allan (1995).  The Women’s Amateur Foursomes Championship was first played in 1950 with the inaugural title taken out by J. P. Blake and E. Lucas. Other winners include Miss Burtta Cheney (1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1962, 1963 & 1964) and 1997 Women’s Australian Open Champion, Miss Jane Crafter (1978). The 2012 event will be limited to 42 male and 42 female pairs. The maximum combined handicap for men’s pairs is 18 strokes while the maximum combined handicap for women’s pairs is 30 strokes.

The Australasian Foursomes Challenge Shield is also held in conjunction with the Men’s Victorian Amateur Foursomes Championship with each Melbourne Member club; Men’s District and the Victorian Golf League eligible to nominate one pair to participate for the Shield.
