Tasmania Golf Club’s Mark Schulze emerged from a quality field of 69 competitors to secure his third Southern Open last weekend. The 32-year-old won the 36-hole Southern title on Sunday with rounds of 69 and 73, a two-under-par total of 142. Schulze, who won his previous Southern titles at Kingston Beach and Tasmania, finished seven strokes in front of his nearest rival Matthew Blackburn. Blackburn, a local member, shot rounds of 72 and 77 to finish five-over the card on 149. Fellow Royal Hobart member Joshua Hill placed third with a total of 150 (+6) and was followed by Nathan Gatehouse (Kingston Beach) on 151 (+7). Riverside junior Samuel Rawlings tied for fifth overall and took out the under age section of the championship with scores of 79 and 73, a 36-hole total of 152 (+8).
