The 2013 Golf Development Forum was held in Darwin from May 22-24. The focus of this year&aposs forum was the “Need for Change”. Traditional Australian sport is facing a number of challenges from a range of factors including competition from other recreational activities, new sports, changing demographics, an ageing population, increasing cultural diversity, work-life balance pressures and a time poor and budget poor scoiety. The forum, run by Golf Australia, was attended by representatives from state and territory associations, junior foundations, PGA of Australia, ALPG, Australian Sports Commission, Golf Management Australia, Golf Industry Central and Active After-School Communities. Phil Shaw-Dennis from Waverley Pitch and Putt also attended as the guest speaker. These issues represent challenges and opportunities for golf; which needs to adapt and change.
