2013 VGF Golf Day at Royal Melbourne

The annual Victorian Golf Foundation Golf Day was played today at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club with over 100 pairs competing in the 4BBB Stableford competition. Although the skies were clear, players were challenged by the gusty winds coupled with Royal Melbourne’s notoriously firm greens. The West Course was once again presented in immaculate condition.

First played in 1988, the Victorian Golf Foundation Annual Golf Day is played at Royal Melbourne in late September each year to raise funds for the Educational and Golf Development of talented Victorian Junior Golfers and junior golf development projects and initiatives undertaken within Victoria. In 2012 over $230,000 was raised predominantly towards junior golf development and women’s participation initiatives.
Glenn Vernon (Heritage) and Paul Noone (Kingswood) claimed the morning honours in the men’s section after returning a stellar 45 points. Tristan Evans and Patrick O’Sullivan closely followed the victor’s just one point back on 44 stableford points. In the women’s section, Sally Diserio and Kate Arnold took this year’s title following a commanding score of 40 points, 8 points clear of runners-up Mitch Cleary and Ruth Buckstein.
The wind intensified as the second field took to the course. The afternoon men’s field was tightly contested with the Gisborne duo of Peter Buttigieg and Colin Leech claiming victory with 42 points. Gunnamatta’s Matthew Dickinson and Matthew Ramage placed second, just a single point adrift.
Meanwhile the Huntingdale combination of Yvette Chrystie and Gordon Chrystie took out the mixed sector after carding 37 points to notch out Jenny Chan and Dale Caruana on a count back.
The inaugural 4BBB Geoff Ogilvy Challenge will also be played over the West Course at Royal Melbourne on Monday 16 December. The event will closely follow both the Australian Masters and the World Cup and is assured it be a unique golfing experience.  Please click here for further information.
