2013 Vic Open – Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to assist with the 2013 Victorian Open to be played at the Thirteenth Beach Golf Links from February 21 to 24 inclusive.

As with all major golf championships, significant assistance is required in a wide range of voluntary roles to ensure the success of the event. Golf Victoria would like to hear from any enthusiastic individual that would like to be part of the 2013 Championship in a voluntary capacity.

All volunteers will be provided with event tickets; car park pass; tournament shirt; have access to a volunteers’ area where complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available during the event and a complimentary round of golf at Thirteenth Beach on a day(s) to be determined immediately following the event.

The Victorian Open format is unique to world professional golf in that the Men’s and Women’s Championships are conducted simultaneously. A summary of the 2013 Championship is as follows: –

  • The Men’s and Women’s Victorian Opens will both be played over 72 holes with equal prizemoney of approx $150K for both events;

  • The opening two rounds of the Women’s Open will be played over the Creek Course while the Men’s Open will be played on the Beach Course;

  • Following the halfway cut, the final two days will see men’s and women’s groups arranged alternately on the Beach Course;

  • This will ensure that the leading groups of men’s and women’s players follow each other up the 18th hole on Sunday afternoon;

  • The Pro-am on Wednesday February 20th will be played on both courses with a 8.15am start and feature both male and female professionals. This will also allow for a major luncheon to be held at the conclusion of play and be a key business interaction opportunity in a social environment.

An interesting range of volunteer roles will be undertaken at the event including:

· Walking Marshals (with leading groups of players);

· Fixed Position Marshals (1st and 10th tees; 9th and 18th greens etc);

· Spotters on selected holes;

· Progressive Leaderboard Operators;

· Walking Scorers (one per each group of players);

· Scoreboard Operators;

· Caddie Jacket – Distribution and Collection;

· Entry Gate & Car Park attendants;

· On Course Drink Supplies;

· Pro-Am Registration/Scoring (Wednesday February 20th only);

· Practice Range Attendants;

· Carryboards Operators;

· Mobile Leaderboard Operators;

 In addition, billet accommodation is required for a number of players that will be travelling from Overseas and Interstate to compete in the event.

Note: An expanded description of each volunteer role is located on the attached summary sheet by clicking here…>.

While many of the above on-course voluntary roles are undertaken for the entirety of each day of the Championship, volunteers are generally rostered for no more than 4-5 hours on any given day (less for roles that do not require walking with a group of players).

Any person interested in volunteering at the 2013 Men’s and Women’s Victorian Open is requested to complete the attached individual registration form available by clicking here…>

Any further assistance that each Victorian Golf Club could undertake to both promote the 2013 Victorian Open and the need for volunteers would be greatly appreciated. In particular, articles in club newsletters/e-communication/club website and announcements at major club events/presentations are most beneficial.

All volunteer registration forms can be returned to the 2013 Vic Open Volunteers Co-ordinator, Norm Emerson by Friday November 30th.

Official rosters for all 2013 Victorian Open volunteer roles will be finalized and distributed by mid-late January 2013 with a briefing meeting for all volunteers to be held on Sunday February 10th at 5pm. Volunteer shirts will also be allocated at the meeting.

The 2013 Victorian Open promises to be an exciting week of golf with many of the best young men’s and women’s professionals from around Australia and overseas competing. Golf Victoria looks forward to the support of as many clubs and golfers as possible to ensure the success of the event.
