It was a fabulous wrap up to the 2014 Victorian Four-Ball Championship today at The National Golf Club. Conditions were surprisingly calm for this part of the Mornington Peninsula, although the challenging Ocean Course layout still proved to be quite a test for most of the players.
Round one leaders Fraser Gough (RACV Cape Schanck) and partner Richard Eriksson (Metropolitan Fire Brigade) continued their hot form to be clear winners in the men’s field on a two-round total of 95 points. Armed with their “lucky dragon” on the bag, the pair off handicaps of 10 and 15 respectively carded a blistering 47 points today to yet again claim the best daily score. Camberwell pair William Strangwick and Ron Sprague were runners-up on 90 points, narrowly beating the third place pair of Shane Wylie (RACV) and Keith Wylie (Traralgon) on 89 points.
A big thank you to Sorrento Golf Club and The National Golf Club, and all the 17 other Victorian clubs for their continued support in hosting the Championship Final and Regional Qualifying Rounds. Thanks are also extended to all the volunteers, who should be commended on their fantastic effort assisting in all aspects throughout the course of the Championship. Most importantly, thank you to everyone that participated in the event this year and congratulations to all the winners.
A naming rights sponsor will be coming on board for the 2015 Championship, which will see a number of new initiatives being introduced. Stay tuned to the Golf Victoria website in their coming weeks for this exciting announcement.
