2014 Four-Ball Championship – Keysborough

The second of 17 regional qualifying rounds of the Victorian Four-Ball Championship was held today at Keysborough Golf Club. 27 pairs enjoyed the first taste of summer in brilliant sunshine coupled with a light breeze, which was a significant turnaround from Monday’s winter-like conditions at Spring Valley.

3 Men’s pairs and 1 Women’s pair qualified today for the Championship State Final to be played at Sorrento GC and The National GC on March 17 and March 18.

Leading the Men’s field with a phenomenal score of 50 points was Nam Fernando (RACV, h’cap 9) and Tasman Tudor (Gunnamatta, h’cap 20). The pair returned nines of 26 and 24 points to be 3 shots clear of runners-up Heritage pair Kevin McLean and partner Geoff MacLeod-Smith on 47 points. In third place was local Leigh Davies (Keysborough) and Michael Dew (Mornington) on 46 points.

The Women’s field was again tightly contested with Huntingdale pair Sarah Cockell (h’cap 15) and partner Tracy Kudelka (h’cap 6) qualifying on a score of 44 points. The pair finished 1 point ahead of Dana McLean (Heidelberg) and Lynda Collier (Heritage).

The next qualifying rounds will be at Benalla GC on Sunday 12 January and Kew GC on Monday 13 January. Please note that entries are still open for all city and country venues (excluding Kingston Heath, Woodlands, and Portsea), and that pairs may compete in more than one country qualifying event.
