2014 Women’s Summer Meeting

The final day of the Summer Meeting sees players team up to play a four person V Par event at Moss Vale GC and Mt Broughton GC. Twenty three teams played at Moss Vale GC and twenty four teams played at Mt Broughton GC. Rhonda Wood (38), Margaret Beveridge (25), Antoinette Gannon (36) and Patricia Reilly (45) from North Ryde GC had the winning score at Moss Vale GC with +12. This was an excellent score which won by a margin of three shots. Leonie Poulton (18), Alison Mooney (12), Kelly Weir (21) and Deborah Collins (13) finished runners up with +9(c/b). Pamela Cronan (32), Judith Greive (34) finished in third place on the same score of +9. At Mt Broughton the Wakehurst team of Judy Dind (19), Diane Edwards (32), Jane Van Den Broek (28) and Lesley Mclean (29) had +12 to emerge as winners. Louise Dally (21), the Division 2 winner teamed up with Jan Deane (15) of Moss Vale GC, Phillipa Parker (21) of Monash CC and Barbara Angell (43) of Mt Broughton GC to and had a score of +11 to finish in runner up position. Third place went to the Moss Vale Team of Bronwen Walton (25), Meg Grady (19), Roslyn Avery (40) and Helen Babbage (31). This has been a very enjoyable and successful week of golf in the Southern Highlands. Mt Broughton GC, Moss Vale GC, Highlands GC and Bowral GC were fantastic hosts providing warm welcomes to the two hundred and eighty participants from various clubs in NSW. All four courses were in excellent condition and warm welcomes were provided to all participants. The next meeting on the Golf NSW calendar is the 2014 Autumn Meeting held on 5-8 May. It is held over four days, across a number of courses in the ACT Region. The Courses are Belconnen, Capital, Fairbairn, Federal, Gold Creek, Gungahlin Lakes, Queanbeyan, and Yowani Golf Clubs. Day Three was enjoyable for competitors at Highlands GC and Bowral GC. Local knowledge proved victorious at Highlands GC today where Tracee Magrath (27) and Debbie Finlaison (12) had the winning score of the day with 76.5 nett on their home course. Fellow Highland GC members Lyle Kite (22) and Elizabeth White (18) finished in the runner up position. Ann Cameron (15) and Jan Reid (15) of Wakehurst GC finished in third place. Brenda Chalmers of Elanora CC and Judith Tunks of Oatlands CC had the best scratch score of 90. The early starters at Highlands were lucky to finish their round before torrential rain in the afternoon. All players were complimentary of the excellent condition of the course. At Bowral GC the winning score of the day came from Margaret Butcher (20) and Mary Hall (31) from Moss Vale GC. They had a score of 74.5 nett. Runners up Wilma Laurich and Rhona Waring from Avalon GC had 75 nett. Sarah Fahey and Elizabeth Shepherd had the best scratch score in Division 2 with a score of 101. The final day of the Summer Meeting takes place tomorrow where players play a four person team event V Par at Moss Vale GC and Mt Broughton GC.

The individual component of the 2014 Summer Meeting is complete. Following two days of golf in testing conditions in the Southern Highlands a mix of local players and visitors have featured in the winning results. Unfortunately the weather conditions were not ideal in round two. All competitors must be praised for their efforts in playing in the tough conditions. In Division 1 Jocelyn Mackay of Moss Vale had a round two score of 79 at Bowral GC and 77 in round one at Mt Broughton GC to win the Summer Cup for best 36-hole scratch score. Jocelyn was joint winner of this event last year. The runner up position goes to Vienna Schoeffel of Bonville GC who had 81 at Bowral GC today and a score of 80 yesterday for a total of 161. Debbie Nunn of Wakehurst GC had the best scratch score of the day at Bowral GC with 78 off the stick. The nett winner in Division 1 on a countback is Margaret Crichton of the Coast GC with a total of 149. In Division 2 Louise Dally of Mt Broughton GC is the winner of the Kathleen Armstrong Bowl for best 36-hole scratch score following rounds of 97 at Bowral GC and 107 at Highlands GC. Runner up is overnight leader Helen Egan of Killara GC, two shots behind with scores of 96 and 107 for a total of 203. The nett winner in Division 2 is Jenny Vernooy of Wakehurst GC with a total of 156 nett. In Division 3 Lisa Zalitis of Avalon GC is the winner of the Summer Salver. She had 29 points yesterday and a fantastic score of 38 points at Mt Broughton in challenging conditions to overtake several players on the leaderboard and finish in first position. Colleen Henry had a score of 30 points in round one at Moss Vale GC and 36 points today at Mt Broughton to finish in the runner up position. The Presentation Dinner takes place at 6.30pm this evening. Over one hundred competitors will attend and it promises to be an enjoyable night. Competitors will pair up for the foursomes component of the Summer Meeting, which takes place at Highlands GC for Division 1 and at Bowral GC for Division 2. The four person team event takes place on Thursday at Moss Vale GC and Mt Broughton GC.

Round 1 of 2014 Women’s Summer Meeting is complete. There were cool and sunny conditions at all courses and it has been a good day of golf for all competitors. In Division 1, familiar names can be seen at the top of the leaderboard. Jocelyn Mackay of Moss Vale GC leads Division 1 with a score of 77. Vienna Schoeffel of Bonville GC is three shots behind Jocelyn after a score of 80. Brenda Chalmers of Elanora CC and Christine Irish of Moss Vale GC are lying in joint third position after scores of 83. Jocelyn was joint winner of the 2013 Women’s Summer Meeting and will have the opportunity to defend her title. Kerry Attenborough of North Ryde GC and Virginia Bevan of The Australian GC both had scores of 72 nett. In Division 2, Helen Egan of Killara GC leads the field with a score of 96 at Bowral GC today. Wakehurst ladies Deborah Gowenlock and Christine Carlyon, Louise Dally of Mt Broughton GC and Denise King of Bayview GC are all in second position with scores of 97. Ros Kenny of Wakehurst GC had the best nett in Division 2 with a score of 73 and Helen Chadwick of Bowral GC had 74 nett. Janice Buttenshaw of Wakehurst GC leads Division 3 with 35 points while Sarah Fahey of Moss Vale GC and Janet Connor of Wakehurst GC are one point behind on 34. The second and final round of the individual component of this competition takes place tomorrow. Division 1 play Bowral GC, Division 2 play Highlands GC and Division 3 play Mt Broughton GC. A presentation dinner will take place at Highlands GC at 6.30pm where prizes for the first two days of play will be presented.

The Women’s Summer Meeting is open to female amateurs who hold a current Australian or overseas equivalent handicap. It is held over four days, across a number of courses in the Central Southern Golf Association. The format is stroke play over 36-holes, 18-holes on day one, and 18-holes on day two (played in three divisions), followed by 18-holes foursomes on day three, and best ball teams v par on day four. Over 280 participants will play in this years event. Beginning Monday 3 March Division 1 play their first round at Mt Broughton GC, Division 2 play at Bowral GC and Division 3 play at Moss Vale GC. It promises to be both enjoyable and competitive across all divisions. Draws, results and reports will be available daily on the Golf NSW website.
