Pre-Qualifying – Wednesday 9 December – Commonwealth GC

The final men’s and women’s qualifiers have been decided for the 2015 Port Phillip Open Amateur following the pre-qualifying round played at the Commonwealth Golf Club on Wednesday 9 December.

Fine and sunny conditions greeted the 34 men and 6 women playing off for the final 13 men’s and 5 women’s positions in the Championship starting field.

With gusting southerly winds making scoring difficult, Riversdale’s James Ford led the men’s qualifying with a commendable one-over 74. A play-off was required for players that returned a score of 80 to determine the final men’s qualifying position with Mornington’s Aung Myint Htwe being successful with a par at the second hole of the sudden death play-off to outlast Dale Williamson from New South Wales .

The women’s qualifying saw five players with a score of 89 or better progress to Friday’s opening round at Commonwealth. Western Australian Melanie Foster, Jade Shellback from The National and Sandhurst’s Kai Shipp were the best performers in each returning 82’s.

All is now in readiness for the opening round of the 2015 Port Phillip Open Amateur which commences on Friday 11 December at Commonwealth with 129 men and 39 women competing.
