Sharon Thompson (Avondale)

Avondale’s Sharon Thompson has excelled today in the final round of the Srixon NSW Mid Amateur Championship, having the round of the tournament, four-over-par 77, to take out the Championship by two shots. Coming in tied for second were Thompson’s playing partners, Jan Crichton (Killara) and Gemma Dooley (NSW/Moore Park). Crichton and Dooley tried their hardest on the back nine today to reel in the small lead Thompson had at the turn, but Thompson held on well until the end to the win.

In the nett competition, Mid Amateur debutant, Barbara Randell (Lynwood) had a great event posting net scores of 80 and 73 to not only win the 36-hole net prize but also take out the Srixon Ball Challenge for the women’s competition. Barbara’s win in the Srixon Ball Challenge now entitles her to a year’s supply of Srixon golf balls. Runner up in the 36-hole nett was overnight Championship leader Gemma Dooley (NSW/Moore Park) with nett scores of 76 and 79. The round one nett winner was Moore Park’s Susan McNally with 76, and round two nett winner was fellow Moore Park member Megan Thorley with a great score of 72.

Taking out the Club Teams Event was the Moore Park pairing of Gemma Dooley and Lucy Child. Gemma’s contribution were nett scores of 76 and 79, with Lucy having 79 and 78 nett.
