The 2015 Women’s NSW Sand Greens Championship has ended with an exciting finish. The Championship has been decided by a sudden death play off which took three holes to decide. Overnight leader Sophie Cusack (Bonnie Doon/Tenterfield) was able to come out in front of young gun Celina Yuan (The Australian) by paring the third play off hole. Sophie had great scores of 74-73 to get herself into the play off. Celina Yuan did extremely well to make the play off with scores of 75-72.

In the Division 1 nett competition, Julie Presnell (Walcha) had a great 36-hole total of 135 off 23 to beat fellow Walcha member, Penny King, who was able to secure second place in the nett on a countback with 136 for the two rounds. In the Division 2 nett, Merrie Llewelyn (Merriwa) had an amazing second round of 62 nett to edge out Coonamble local Jessie Blattman on a countback. Both players posted 36-hole nett totals of 134.

In the teams events, WDLGA took out the gross trophy, the SWLGA Bow,l by a huge margin with a total score of 319. The WDLGA team was made up of Sharon Nott, Chantell Greaves and Lousea Johnston. In the nett teams event, Walcha were able to come home strong in the second round to beat NEDGA on a countback. Both teams finished on totals of 280. The Walcha team consisted of Cheryl McDonald, Penny King and Pip Leake.

Congratulations must go to the Coonamble Golf Club for the exceptional hospitality that was displayed throughout the Championship. All competitors appeared to enjoy themselves both on and off the golf course.

Competitors have experienced exceptional conditions today for the first round of the 2015 Women’s NSW Sand Greens Championship at Coonamble GC. Sophie Cusack (Bonnie Doon/Tenterfield) is the first round leader, after having a great opening round of 74. A shot further back is current Australian Junior Champion, Celina Yuan (The Australian), who had a solid score of 75.

In the nett competition young local, Jessie Blattman (Coonamble) had by far the best nett score of the day with 64 off a handicap of 36. Two shots back with a nett score of 66 was Julie Presnell (Walcha) off a handicap of 23.

A large contingent of women will be contesting the 2015 Women's NSW Sand Greens Championship this weekend being held at Coonamble Golf Club.

Draw and Player Information

The Championship is open to female amateur golfers with a GA handicap of 45.4 or under, and will be played over two rounds of 18-holes.

The Championship includes the popular Women's RLGA Jug (handicap teams event) and Women's SLWGA Bowl (scratch teams event). These are played concurrently with the Championship.

A range of prizes will be awarded, including perpetual trophies such as:

  • DIVISION 1 – NSWLGU Sand Greens Championship Salver – 36-hole scratch
  • DIVISION 2 – NSWLGU Bronze Salver – 36-hole scratch
