The 2016 Victorian School Teams Championship was well supported again with a wide range of schools converging on The Metropolitan Gold Club to do battle for their respective schools. With 35 schools represented it was great to see all players donning their school logos and playing their hearts out to bring the titles back on the bus.
The event was split into two divisions, A Division (Combined team handicap of 45 or less) and B Division (Combined team handicap of greater than 46), with the two best Stableford scores counting towards the team total. In the B Division the title went to the team at St Joseph’s College with a runaway score of 73 helped by a fine 38 points from Lachlan Robinson. In second place was the team from Trinity Grammar School (69 total) and in third place the team from Mentone Girls Grammar (68 total).
First and second place in A Division was a little closer race with only 1 point separating the two teams. In the end the team from Penleigh & Essendon Grammar managed to take the title over the team from Maribyrnong College with the two teams finishing with 70 and 69 points respectively. The consistency of the Penleigh & Essendon Grammar team proved to be the difference with Kyle Novacek and Nathan Page shooting on and close to their low handicaps to help triumph over the Maribyrnong team. Yarra Valley Grammar was also not far behind finishing in third place with 67 points.
In conjuction with the event part of the 2016 SSV TEAM VIC 17 YEARS & UNDER TEAM was selected to attend the National Championships to be held in Adelaide, SA from August 14-19, 2016.
