2018 School Ambassador of the Year Winner

Golf Australia presents to you the 2018 School Ambassador of the Year, Travis Vandermeer.

Travis has put in a tremendous effort in bringing MyGolf programs to life in his school!

A PE Teacher from South Lake Primary School in WA, Travis has implemented MyGolf programs for the past two years at a school that had previously no experience with golf. He used the Sporting Schools grant to get the program off the ground at school and ensured students were directed to their local clubs once the program ended. He went to lengths of developing his own 'closest to the pin' competition with the winner receiving free lessons with a pro at a local golf club.

Travis said, "the kids loved having a go at a game they might otherwise have never got any exposure to. Our school is in a lower socio-economic area and with the exception of a few students, golf is not a game that is generally part of their family's heritage and one that many may otherwise never get a chance to experience." He also stated he would highly recommend the Golf Ambassador program to other teachers because, "being an ambassador provided me with the resources and support from MyGolf and Golf Australia to deliver a golf program more effectively with improved outcomes."

He enjoyed his fantastic prize in February which included an all-expenses paid trip for two to the 2019 ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open at the The Grange in Adelaide, South Australia. This included flights, overnight accommodation, tickets for two days and entry into the Golf Australia Club, as well as playing a round of golf following the tournament – no doubt an incredible experience playing on the course the pros had been competing on just the day prior.
