Jason Day, Adam Scott and Marc Leishman are the guaranteed Australians on the International team for the Presidents Cup against the United States in South Korea next month.
Day (ranked 1st among the International players), Scott (3) and Leishman (6) were already locked in to their positions when the cut-off came today. Day and Scott are Cup veterans, and Leishman made his debut in 2015.
Queenslander Steven Bowditch was just outside the top 10 by one spot, 11th on the world rankings, but still has a chance to win a berth in the 12-player team. International team captain Nick Price will announced two captain's picks tonight to complete the selection.
With no Korean qualifying, it would not surprise to see Price address that issue, for he has said recently that it would be "sad if we didn’t see a South Korean player make their way onto the team''. Sang Moon Bae is the most likely selection, although he is required to submit for military service soon.
The closest to a hometown hero is Kiwi Danny Lee, who was born in South Korea but emigrated to New Zealand as a boy.
Anirban Lahiri will become the first Indian to play in a Presidents Cup when the event starts at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon on October 8.
