Lucas Herbert and Jason Day are pulling away from the rest of the field as the Emirates Australian Open builds to a dramatic finish.

Crowds have flocked to The Australian to watch the former World No.1 Day and 21-year-old Herbert duke it out for their national Open title.

Herbert has the early edge on Day, after back-to-back birdies on 6 and 7, but it’s hard to count out a Major champion.

The best may be yet to come for Day who, in his press conference yesterday, vowed to be “patient” today on the front nine then attack the back nine.

Three hopefuls in Cameron Smith, Cameron Davis and Jonas Blixt are chasing the leaders. Smith perhaps the most likely after making the turn at 3-under-the-card and sitting three strokes back of the lead.

Special mention to Richard Green who played out his round with irons on the green after damaging his putter.
