Blind Golf NSW conducted its 2012 Blind Golf Open Championship over 36 holes at the Barnwell Park Golf Club on 20 & 21 September. The tournament was well supported with twenty players taking part with entrants coming from NSW, QLD, SA, ACT and VIC. Blind golf has 3 sight categories; B1, B2 and B3 depending on the player s vision capabilities. B1 players are totally blind. Blind Golf NSW Captain Jenny Abela (B2 handicap 54) won her first major tournament by 6 stokes from the gross winner Stephen Mitchell. Jenny, with her long serving caddie Steve Doyle, played outstanding golf scoring a 98 net over the two-day event to win the 2012 Championship. In hosting the presentation of trophies, Mr John Hayward, Blind Golf NSW President firstly thanked the Barnwell Park Golf Club and staff for use of their club and course, and the various members of Blind Golf NSW for assisting in the management of the championship. He went on to thank Erik Royds, Blind Golf NSW Life Member, Greg Engall, Barnwell Park Professional, Stephen Jackson (cards and scoreboard official) and Jay Robertson (photographer) plus the players and their caddies for their continued support of the event.
