Adam Scott becomes first Australian to win the Masters!

The drought is over! Adam Scott has cemented himself into Australian sports folk law, becoming the first Australian to win the US Masters in a compelling finish to a tournament that had every Australian on the edge of their seat.

Having entered the day one shot off the lead at six-under behind leading pair Angel Cabrera (-7) and Brandt Snedeker (-7) , Scott started with an opening bogey but would not slip up on any remaining holes for the tournament after that.

Heading to the 18th tee, Scott was tied in the lead at -8 with Cabrera whilst Jason Day dropped back to -7 after two consecutive bogeys on the 16th & 17th. Scott hit his second shot within 20 feet and knocked in what he thought was the winning putt as he celebrated with pure emotion. However, just moments later, Cabrera with ice in his veins knocked his second shot within two feet on the final hole to leave a short birdie putt to tie with Scott at nine-under and force a playoff.

Both players headed back up to the 18th tee for the first playoff hole with both making par, Cabrera coming very close to chipping in for birdie before Scott made a testy four-footer to send it to a second playoff hole.

Scott once again was first to tee off, this time on the 10th and hit the middle of the fairway with three-wood. Cabrera matched Scott off the tee with a long iron. Cabrera played first and left himself an uphill 20 footer. Scott then stuck his second shot pin high with 12 foot left for birdie. Cabrera would miss his putt and leave the door open for Scott to take out the Championship with a make. Having knocked in the biggest putt of his career on the final hole of regulation, Scott again was up for the challenge, draining the 12 footer across the green to end what has been a hoodoo of Australian sport.

Day finished outright third at seven-under, whilst Victorian Marc Leishman finished in a tie for fourth with Tiger Woods at five-under.

The other Aussie competing in the field was John Senden who finished in a tie for 35th at three-over.

Well done Scotty!!!!
