Age no barrier for Laurie at Wallaroo

Age is no barrier for Laurie McEwen, 91, who recently won the C grade golf championship at Wallaroo Golf Club. McEwen, who plays golf at least twice a week, said he doesn’t know what the secret is but acknowledges he has been well looked after. I don t think it s a matter of age, it s a matter of capability, because when you get older you get stiffer and lose the distance you can hit so if you haven t got the physical capability it deters a lot of people, he said. I just love golf because it is an individual game and you can t blame the course, wind or rain you just have to blame yourself. My advice would be to never give up, if you can go out and play, just do it and the doctor has advised me to keep playing. McEwen said he enjoys golf because it gives him the opportunity to mix with people and he will be going around on the course again next season. Credit: Yorke Peninsula Country Times.
