The Australian Golf Heritage Society is commemorating the 100 Years Anniversary of Gallipoli with the Golf and War Exhibition. Through objects, official documents and personal reflections, The Exhibition profiles golfers, professional and amateur, who enlisted in World War I and World War II.
It explores how the golfing community responded to the demands of Australia’s war efforts with Clubs undertaking fundraising activities and, at times, giving up their courses to accommodate servicemen or for training purposes.
The Exhibition also looks at how sporting goods manufacturers converted to wartime production requirements and the camaraderie of the ‘Diggers Day’ golf clubs put on as reunions for servicemen.
The Exhibition will have an official opening on 24th May 2015 but is now on display each Sunday at The AGHS Golf Museum, 4 Parramatta Rd, Granville – (above Golf Mart) – 10 am to 4 pm.
The Exhibition will be constantly changing with new sections developed to commemorate the service of golfers in other wars such as Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan and in the Boer War.
