Albinski wins Men’s Senior Match Play

Stefan Albinski from Mona Vale Golf Club in Sydney has won his fifth National Senior Title after claiming the 2011 Australian Men’sSenior Match Play Championship. The Championship, played in challenging conditions on the Beach Course at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links on Victoria s Bellarine Peninsula, saw 32 of Australia s best senior golfers play five rounds of match play competition. Albinski prevailed over Greg Corben from Twin Creeks Golf Club, also in Sydney, 7&5 in the 18-hole final. Albinski took the lead after the second hole, and although Corben played well, Albinksi was never challenged, finishing three under par for the 13 holes. Both players had some tight matches to secure their place in the final, with Albinski being taken to the 18th hole in two of his previous four matches. Corben needed to get past New Zealand s Rodney Bartrop in the semi-final and last year s runner up, Colin Hallam in the quarter-final, to make it to the last two. Last year s Champion, Chris Coats, was knocked out in the quarter-finals. Albinski adds the 2011 Match Play title to his win in the same event in 2009, as well as his three wins in the Australian Men’sSenior Amateur Championship in 2011, 2010 and 2008. In the inaugural Super Senior Section of the Championship, for those players 65 years of age or over, Lake Karrinyup s Alex Cleave defeated Metropolitan s Denis Long 5&4, after both advanced to the Final after three matches over a round robin format.
