Q: Is this week your first look at Royal Melbourne?
A: “It’s my first tournament here, but I walked the course on Sunday, played Monday and Tuesday; 36 holes just to get used to it rather than practising. Being on the course I think really helped me, doing all the putting and chip shots and bunker shots and seeing the contours of the greens. It’s like a British Open to me. You’ve got to land it soft.”
Q: Does the course match your game and your eye?
A: “Right now it does. I’m hitting it well and did everything I wanted today. With some of those approach shots, I knew I had to bounce it a certain spot and I actually landed it pretty close to those spots on the downwind holes and it helped a lot.
Q: Are you confident you can go and win something like this?
A: “Very. I haven’t had a win on tour yet, but it would be great to have it here. But it’s only Thursday now and I’ve got a lot of work to do, so just keep plugging.”
