Allan storms into contention

Joe Ogilvie&aposs feverish charge on the back nine landed him atop the leaderboard during Friday&aposs second round of the US Bank Championship, while Australian Steve Allan stormed into contention with a round of 66. Ogilvie carded seven birdies – including five on the final nine holes – to finish the round at seven-under-par 63 at Brown Deer Park Golf Course. For the tournament, Ogilvie is at 10-under 130, two strokes ahead of Jeff Maggert and Garrett Willis. Maggert, who was tied with Zimbabwe&aposs Brendon de Jonge after the first round, carded four birdies but bogeyed three holes – including number four for the second consecutive day. He finished one-under for the day but snapped a string of four straight tournaments in which he missed the cut. The 27-year-old de Jorge carded seven bogeys, including three on the first four holes, and dropped into a tie for 22nd place. Bogeys on numbers 10-12 and 16 capped his day at four-over and put him three-under for the tournament. Steve Flesch, who was tied for 35th after the first round, shot into contention after he finished six-under Friday. Flesch, who is in a six-way tie for fourth at seven-under, overcame a bogey on the first hole to amass eight birdies – including four on the last five holes. Flesch is tied with Billy Playfair and Bob Heintz, both of whom also shot six-under on Friday, along with Tim Herron, Tim Clark and Craig Bowden. Allan is tied for 10th at six-under-par, while Jarrod Lyle (69) and Mathew Goggin (67) are still well in contention at three-under-par. Fellow Australians Stephen Leaney (70) and Steve Elkington (73) are in tied for 44th at one-under, while compatriot Nathan Green (69) marginally made the cut, finishing at even par. Michael Sim (71), Paul Gow (71), Andrew Buckle (73) and Gavin Coles (72) all failed to make the cut.
