Allan’s hopes fade

Steve Allen is the best-placed Aussie after the third round of the US Bank Championship following a one under round of 69. Allen moves to a share of fifth place on seven under going into the final round on Sunday. But it was tough going for the other Aussies in the draw, with Matthew Goggin the only player to stay the right side of the ledger with an even par 70. Jarrod Lyle (73), Steve Elkington (71), Stephen Leaney (74) and Nathan Green (74) were all over the card and need minor miracles on the final day. Tim Herron birdied three of his final four holes to take the lead into the lead after Saturday&aposs third round. Herron, who posted birdies on three of his first six holes, finished five-under-par 65 for the day and 12-under-par 198 for the tournament at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course. Herron enjoys a one-stroke lead over second-round leader Joe Ogilvie and South African Tim Clark. Kenny Perry is a nine-under, while Jeff Brehaut carded eagles on numbers six and 18 to pull into a tie with Charlie Wi at eight-under. Brehaut was tied for 22nd to start the third round. Tony Finau, 17, from Salt Lake City, had two double-bogeys and three bogeys en route to shooting six-over for both the day and the tournament.
