Allenby just misses

By Sportal Robert Allenby was one stroke away from making the four-man Honda Classic sudden-death playoff which has been suspended until Monday morning (US time) due to darkness in Florida. Allenby carded a 68 in the final round, but after turning in four-under to get it to six under overall, he dropped shots on 15 and 16 to cost himself a spot in the playoff with Camillo Villegas (66), Jose Coceres, (66) Mark Wilson (71) and Boo Weekley (70) – the quartet finishing five-under after 72 holes. The quartet all parred the first extra hole before the conditions were deemed unplayable, with the playoff to continue at 8:30am local time. Joining Allenby in a tie for fifth at four-under were Americans Tripp Isenhour and Steve Stricker, while Brett Wetterich and Swede Daniel Chopra were tied eighth at three-under. German veteran Bernhard Langer was in a group of three players at one-under. Other than Allenby, the remaining Australians in the field finished over-par. Victorian duo Jarrod Lyle and Steve Allan and MFS Australian Open champion John Senden all finished at plus-four to share 39th place, while Gavin Coles (66, six-over), Mathew Goggin (68, seven-over) and Peter Lonard (74, eight-over) were well off the pace. Nick O&aposHern, Stephen Leaney, Nathan Green, Andrew Buckle and Paul Gow all missed the cut. For Allenby, it is his fifth top-five finish on the PGA Tour this year.
