ALPG Founding and Life Member, Betty Dalgleish, celebrated her 80th birthday in Sydney this past weekend at a function attended by friends, family and golfing dignitaries at her home club, Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club. Around seventy guests attended the luncheon which was held as a celebration of Dalgleish&aposs milestone birthday and her successful golfing career.
rn
rnDalgleish moved from her hometown of Hobart to Sydney in 1961 and went on to represent her state and country over the next ten years. In 1968 she captured the Women&aposs Australian Amateur Championship and turned professional following the national championship in 1971. The following year she became the first member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association of Australia. In 1983 she was elected as a Life Member of Australian Ladies Professional Golf and to this day still competes in her beloved weekly competition at Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club.
rn
rnIn September 2010, Dalgleish shot her age in the Tuesday competition and during her birthday presentation speech said "I wake up every Tuesday morning and can&apost wait to get to the golf course. Tuesday is the best day of the week for me. I now have an extra shot up my sleeve so have a set new goal to go out and break my age." Currently playing off a handicap of thirteen, it seems likely this goal is well within reach in the not too distant future.

rnClose friend and Club Board member, Lorraine Salmon, presented Betty with a hard cover book which she had produced and published – A Celebration of the Life of Betty Dalgleish. ALPG Chief Executive Officer, Warren Sevil attended the celebration, along with World Golf Hall of Famer and Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club Patron – Kel Nagle.
