ALPG – HULL GOES BACK-TO-BACK WITH MT BROUGHTON WIN

(17 January 2011 – Mt Broughton, NSW)

rn

Queensland&aposs Katherine Hull won back-to-back titles after securing the inaugural Mt Broughton Ladies Classic today at the magnificent Mt Broughton layout in the Southern Highlands.
rnHull started the day two shots adrift of overnight leader, Alison Whitaker, and posted a superb six-under par 66 under more challenging conditions on than the first day to finish atop of the leaderboard at 10-under par total 134.  Victoria’s Vicky Thomas was runner-up at 7-under par after adding a four-under par 68 to yesterday’s 69.

rn

Hull got off to a flying start recording birdies on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th holes to go out in four-under par 32 to go to an 8-under par total with nine to play. She didn’t have it all her own way with South Australia’s Stephanie Na just one behind after going out in 3-under par 33.

rn

Hull began the back nine badly with a bogey at the 10th but it was Na, who finished second to Hull three days ago at the Moss Vale event, who faltered first with bogeys the 10th and 12th holes. Hull rammed home the advantage with birdies at the 11th and 12th holes to stretch her lead to four shots.

rn

Overnight leader Whitaker couldn’t get going and was even par after 12 holes and 6-under total leaving Hull to par her way in all the way to the clubhouse and was never really challenged. Na and Whitaker both finished tied for third on 6-under par.

rn

After her round, “It was great to back-up the Moss Vale result with two more solid rounds. I got a tip last night from two-time Australian Open Champion Frank Phillips. He said to trust my instinct and not worry about being too perfect and I did that today.”

rn

She also commented on the inaugural staging of the Mt Broughton Classic, saying, “It was an amazing two days playing on a championship standard golf course and Frank Williams and the entire Mt Broughton staff were wonderful hosts.

The ALPG Tour continues this week with the Bing Lee/Samsung Women’s NSW Open at the Oatlands Golf Club in Sydney. Play gets underway on Friday morning and it would appear that Hull is the one to beat with the early-season form she has shown in the past week, finishing tied 3rd, 1st and 1st.
