ALPG Tour – KEMP GOES BACK-TO BACK WITH 4-SHOT WIN AT BRANXTON

(13 December 2009 – Branxton, NSW)

Forster-Tuncurry&aposs Sarah Kemp recorded her second victory from her last two starts after she added a 5-under par 67 to her first round 68 to post a two round total of 9-under par 135. Her superb final round saw her overtake first round leader Jody Fleming, who could only manage a 1-over par 73, albeit finishing second, her best finish since turning professional last season. Last year’s winner Rachel Bailey posted a final round 3-under par 69 to finish in outright 3rd place on 4-under par 140.

With both Kemp and Fleming paired in the last group, it turned out to be virtual matchplay with Bree Arthur and Bree Turnbull falling away early in the piece. Both players started with a par at the difficult par-4 first, however, Fleming quickly lost the lead with a bogey at the 2nd while Kemp eagled the 3rd to move in to a one shot lead.

Kemp’s lead was extended after Fleming found trouble on the 6th hole to record a double-bogey and Kemp held a 2-shot buffer at the turn. From there on it appeared as if it would be ‘by how many?’ for Kemp. She added three birdies on the par-5’s around the back nine to skip to a four shot lead with just the 18th hole to play. She made a regulation par there to post her 7th ALPG victory and her second in a week.

Asked whether she expected to win being the red-hot favourite, she said, "No, I have had to play really well to win the events I&aposve won. I don&apost want to put pressure on  myself." Her score of 67 was surprising even to the rising star as she expected "the scores to be three-to-four shots worse than yesterday. Anything under par would have been good enough I think."

The ALPG Tour moves into the Christmas Break with three Pro-Ams in January before the ActewAGL Royal Canberra Ladies Classic kicks off the run of five major events on 28 January 2010.
