Australian teenager Oliver Goss won the WA Open after beating fellow amateur Brady Watt in a sudden-death playoff on Sunday. Both players finished on 16-under 272 after four rounds, forcing the playoff at Royal Perth Golf Club in Western Australia. The pair could not be split over the first four playoff holes before Watt recorded a bogey, allowing Goss to putt for par and the win. The promising 18-year-old is the first amateur to claim the WA Open title since Stephen Leaney in 1991. Earlier, Goss registered a final-round six-under 66, while overnight leader Watt was left to rue a bogey and double bogey in his 68. Goss carded eight birdies, including four from the final six holes, matching the course record he set two days prior. That record was broken by two players on the final day, with Brett Rumford and Daniel Nisbet setting a new best of 65. Rumford finished in third place at 14 under, one stroke ahead of fellow Aussies Rohan Blizard (67) and Ashley Hall (69). Local hopes Nisbet, Nick Cullen (67) and Scott Strange (69) tied for sixth, followed by Englishman Peter Wilson (70) and Australian duo Anthony Brown (68) and Andrew Kelly (69).
