FootGolf is taking off in Australia, as evidenced by a recent newspaper article about a Victorian golf club.
The Cardinia Beaconsfield Golf Links in outer Melbourne has taken up the challenge of promoting the new hybrid game, with early successes.
Club general manager Fiza Errington said the sport – essentially golf with a soccer ball and a bigger hole — was ideal for attracting a new audience in an environment where it was difficult for golf clubs to attract members.
“We have covered set up costs and everything else is pure profit,” she told the Berwick Leader. “It’s good for us in terms of an extra income stream.”
Foot Golf, was invented in Europe in 2009 and is now played in 17 countries.
Golf Australia supports the concept.
