Australia’s Minjee Lee has warmed up for next week’s major championship finishing tied-sixth in the Arkansas Championship on the LPGA Tour.
So Yeon Ryu of South Korea won the tournament by two shots to overtake Ariya Jutanugarn and claim the world No. 1 ranking for the first time.
Lee has six top-10 finishes this season already and more than $US400,000 prizemoney.
She had her best major finish, tied-third at the ANA Inspiration earlier this year. This week is the LPGA Championship in Olympia Fields, the season’s second major.
Ryu, who is coached by Australian Cameron McCormick in Dallas, leaps from from No. 3 to No. 1 on the rankings with her second win of the year.
“First of all, I really want to appreciate everyone who has been supportive of me, to make me the No. 1 player in the world,'' she said. ":That’s finally made my dream. This is going to my first week as the No. 1 player in the world. I know it’s going to be a lot of pressure and I know I can handle a lot of different things.”
Queenslander Katherine Kirk (10-under) also tied for 10th.
