Appleby slips up

Stuart Appleby is five shots off the lead at the PODS Championship in Tampa Bay with inclement weather suspending the second round. American Jeff Maggert, who was only halfway through the course before play on the second day came to an abrupt end, is the current leader with a score of eight under. Appleby (three under) had a day he&aposd rather forget, carding a horror two-over par round of 73 which included five bogeys at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 17th holes. The Australian&aposs second round was in complete contrast to his first which saw him register a five-under round of 66. Maggert had no such trouble in his first nine holes on the second day with four birdies already under his belt to go with the six he reeled off in the first round. The American now enjoys a three-stroke lead with compatriots Kenny Perry and DJ Trahan both tied for second on five under par. Perry and Trahan were also unable to complete their respective second rounds before Mother Nature intervened. Perry is progressively even after nine holes while Trahan is two under after seven. Meanwhile, John Senden, Rod Pampling and Geoff Ogilvy managed to get 18 holes in on day two and are all two strokes behind Appleby on one under and seven shots off the lead. Like Appleby, Senden had a dramatic turnaround in form from day one as he carded a three-over par second round of 74 thanks to five bogeys and only two birdies. Pampling and Ogilvy put in marginally better efforts on day two with rounds of 71 and 72 respectively.
