Nominee Name: Amy Thomas MYGolf Centre: Patterson River Golf Club State: VIC Age: 9 Favourite Golfer: Karrie Webb A MYGolfer at Patterson River for over a year now, nine year old Amy Thomas loves her golf. Taking up the game at the tender age of six, Thomas is still enjoying learning new skills and improving on everything Patterson River coach, Paul Boxall, has taught her. Despite currently naming the drive as her favourite shot, extra incentives could soon see it knocked from top spot. Chipping is fun as well because we have hoops to aim at and we earn points by getting the ball in the hoop, Thomas said. I also like putting because if you win the comp you get a Mars Bar, they are really delicious! Thomas said. Thomas is just one of the many children enjoying their golf at Patterson River under the instruction of PGA Teach Professional Paul Boxal. Involved since the program s inception, Boxall has been delighted with the uptake from juniors in the Patterson River and Chelsea area, particularly those whose parents do not play the game. Witnessing the young golfers display a sense of achievement when they complete various skill sets brings Boxall a great source of pride and he was delighted when told Thomas had received this award. Amy is a very competitive young girl who loves to win our competitions, Boxall said. It could be chipping, putting or driving, it doesn’t matter, she just loves winning, Boxall said. Boxall s future plan for Thomas is to enter her into the Victoria Primary School Golf Competitions to enable her to gain some course and competition experience. I m sure she will love playing and meeting other people of her age to play with in the future, Boxall said.
