Canberra’s Josh Armstrong has finished the best of the Aussie contingent at The Players Amateur at the Berkeley Hall Club in South Carolina.
The 18-year-old carded a six under par 65 to move up 15 places to finish the event in 9th place with a final score of eight under par 276.
“It has been building up,” Armstrong said of his fast finish. ”I hadn’t had many birdies all week, so I stayed patient, and it all came together today.”
It was a pleasing return to form for the 18-year-old, particularly with pre-qualifying for the US Amateur just around the corner.
“It would be good, but I’m just trying to enjoy myself, that's the focus. I know the results will come, I just have to stay positive,” he said.
Of the others in the field, Blake Windred finished in 19th; Blake Collyer finished 33rd, James Grierson 38th, Kyle Michel 44th and Nathan Barbieri 45th.
