Ashes squad gunning for triple

2009 ASHES PREVIEW The Australian Ashes team of Matt Jager (WA), Daniel Nisbet (QLD), Jason Scrivener (WA), Brendan Smith (NSW) and Lincoln Tighe (NSW) is ready to fire on Wednesday night (AEST) as the 2009 Ashes tournament gets underway at Royal Birkdale Golf Club. Home to last year&aposs Open Championship where Greg Norman was upset by Padraig Harrington, Royal Birkdale presents a stern-test for both teams. Nisbet comes into the tournament having made both cuts in his first two events in Scotland including his fourth place finish at the St Andrew Links Trophy earlier this week. Jager, Scrivener and Smith have all played twice on their UK Tour already and will look to consolidate their form ahead of the British Amateur Championship at Formby & West Lancashire which starts this weekend. It is Jager&aposs second appearance for Australia in an Ashes Squad. England will be represented by Charlie Ford, Luke Goddard, Matt Haines, Dale Whitnell and Sam Hutsby. Ford has played in Australia before and tied for third at last year&aposs Lake Macquarie Amateur. Whitnell and Hutsby have both competed in The Ashes tournament before. Goddard is the current South of England Stroke Play champion and Haines has had four domestic wins in the UK in 2009.
