Asia-Pacific Senior Championship returns to Malaysia

The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), the international governing body for amateur golf in the Asia-Pacific region, is pleased to announce that the Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship will be played at the Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia from 11-13 November, 2008. This is the third occasion that the Asia-Pacific Senior will be played in Malaysia, with the two previous tournaments being hosted by The Royal Selangor Golf Club in 1986 and 1999. To date, many of the best senior amateur players from over 10 countries have entered including representatives from Australia, the USA, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore, India and host country Malaysia. Entries are closing soon and there are still places available in the field. Speaking from Malaysia, the Chairman of the APGC, Dato Tommy Lee said, The APGC is delighted that the Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai is the host venue for our Senior Amateur Championship and we are certain that all the participants will enjoy both the course and hospitality that will be extended to them. Having the leading resort course in Malaysia host Asia s most important senior amateur championship is a great milestone for the event. Datuk Robin Loh, the Chief Executive Officer from the Karambunai Corporation Berhad said, We are looking forward to hosting the best senior golfers from Asia Pacific and seeing how they will handle the Nexus layout. The course is in excellent condition and should be a worthy test for our visitors. Philippine s Tommy Manotoc is the defending champion. He won in 2007 for the second time in four years with a victory on home soil at the Mt Malarayat Golf Club in Batangas. The championship is open to male amateur golfers 55 years old and above, and is played for the Y.A. Bhg. Tun Abdul Hamid Omar Cup. In addition to the overall winner, prizes are awarded in four age groups (A – 55-59 years, B – 60-64 years, C – 65-69 years and D – 70 years & above) and there is an international team match.
