Heath Kolac lost his left leg above the knee a bit more than a decade ago.
It happened in an horrendous accident near his home on Philip Island; a car driven by an elderly woman turned in front of his motorbike and he "T-boned'' it. Kolac's leg was severed instantly, and he lost most of the use of his left arm.
In fact, he was lucky to survive at all. A medico, by good fortune passing nearby, had to stem the blood pouring from his leg as quickly as possible.
Kolac spent the next few years recovering, with various operations, and stopped playing his beloved golf.
Then a couple of years ago, he had a revelation. Why not play again?
Fast forward to now and he is now playing off 16 at Phillip Island Golf Club, where he is a member of the board of management. He was one of the stars of the show at an "Inclusion Day'' at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne, where Golf Victoria and its partner, the Transport Accident Commission, showcased the work that is being done with golfers with a disability.
They included paraplegic golfers and of course, the inspirational Heath Kolac.
