AUDIO: Office work spurs Kirk on

A dose of office work reality has helped propel Katherine Kirk to her best LPGA Tour season in seven years.

The genial Queenslander backed up her Thornberry Creek Classic win in July with a T3 at last week's major championship in Evian, France.

Along with a handful of other reasonable results, it's enough to have Kirk 23rd on the LPGA Tour money list with $635,147 and 29th with a bullet in the season-long Race to the CME Globe standings.

And after two "quite rough years" Kirk told Golf Australia's Inside The Ropes podcast this week that a brief flirtation with office work last year might have been the prod she needed.

"I remember finishing late August last year and my husband started a new company and I actually went into the office for about a month and did paperwork for them because my season was over," Kirk said.

"I was saying to myself, `If I'm not competitive and not doing what I think I should be doing, maybe I need to look at doing something else'.

"But the office gig, I couldn't handle it," she said with a giggle. "It's not for me.

"That might have been a blessing in disguise, actually.

"I didn't like having to get dressed up every day and do my hair.

"I much prefer just putting on my golf clothes and cap and just walking outside."

Kirk, who will play in next week's New Zealand Open, also spoke to young Queenslander Cassie Porter, the winner of this week's Katherine Kirk Classic on the Sunshine Coast, in a conversation that came as a complete surprise to the promising 15-year-old who considers Kirk one of her idols.
