It is understood that Australia has a powerful pair of players at the top of the professional game, with reigning Masters champion Adam Scott now No.2 in the world and Jason Day at No.16. Less well known, however, is the strength of amateur golf on the island continent and how it is anchored by its own dynamic duo, Oliver Goss and Brady Watt. Positioned seventh and ninth, respectively, in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, they have enjoyed very successful competitive seasons in 2013. And they made solid showings at last week&aposs Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, with Goss coming in seventh and Watt T8. The closeness of their rankings as well as their finishes here seems appropriate, for the lads have long been linked by the sport. Both grew up playing courses around the Western Australian capital Perth, and they have battled in dozens of tournaments over the years, producing a series of epic encounters in the process. Such as the one at last year&aposs Western Australian Open, where Goss and Watt each birdied the last two holes of regulation to force a playoff. Then, they each birdied the first four holes of the playoff before Goss prevailed with a par on the fifth.
