All four Australians in the British Amateur draw have qualified for the round of 32 with second round victories overnight. Tim Stewart, Rohan Blizard, Rick Kulacz and Andrew Dodt all posted solid results as the green and gold charge continues at Royal Lytham St Annes. Dodt was the most convincing winner, claiming his match 5&4 over Englishman David Corsby. The Queenslander will be hoping to mount a good challenge in the coming days after a disappointing first round loss at the Australian Amateur as leading qualifier. Current and former Australian Amateur Champions Blizard and Stewart both progressed to the next round after 3&2 wins. Blizard overcame Niall Turner of Muskerry while Stewart defeated Tom Sherreard of Chart Hills. Finally, Kulacz was made to work for his win but progressed with a 1up triumph over Brit Jamie Abbott, leaving the Aussie campaign looking healthy. Only one Australian has previously won the British Amateur and that was Doug Bachli in 1954, coincidentally the same year that compatriot Peter Thompson won his first British Open. The current contingent has high hopes of repeating his success but all face tough third round matches. Kulacz will face talented German Florian Fritsch, Dodt plays Frenchman Kenny Le Sager, Stewart is against Englishman Ben Evans while Blizard faces arguably the toughest assignment against former R&A world number one Jamie Moul. The England squad member competed in the Australian Amateur Championship at New South Wales Golf Club in March and fell to Scotsman Lloyd Saltman in the second round. Blizard of course went on to win the Australian Amateur and will be determined to mount a charge this week. Moul and Blizard have faced off once before at The Dunes for The Ashes earlier this year and although Australia seized the trophy in convincing fashion, the pair played out a pulsating match that finished all-square.
