Aussie Mid Am ready to go

A record field of almost 100 players will tee off on Wednesday over 54 holes of stroke play in the Australian Mid Amateur Championships at Links Lady Bay Resort in South Australia.

Tasmania’s Greg Longmore and NSW’s Nicholas Crews will be strong favourites in the men’s championship, as will locals Glenn Gambrell and Brad Altmann, while 2015 champion Mark Boulton (Vic) will hope to add a second title to his resume.

In the women’s event, NSW’s Louise Mullard is sure to be a strong contender, as well as SA’s Josie Gale and Gemma Dooley (NSW).

The strong Links Lady Bay layout will ensure the cream rises to the top with itssubtle bent greens and true St Andrews style sand based course. It is the number one resort course in South Australia, the number one public access course in South Australia.

The men’s and women’s champions will receive an invitation to attend the 2018 New Zealand Mid Amateur Championship, while the leading available male up to fifth placing, and the leading available female player up to third placing, will be selected in the Golf Australia team to play the annual Ryder Cup-style match against the Australian Defence Forces.

The Australian Mid Amateur Championships are in their 11th year and with previous winners including Jason Perry (Vic) and current Canadian Women’s Senior Amateur champion Sue Wooster (Vic). The championships are the pinnacle event for players aged 30-54 years.
