Aussie pair on top at TPC Southwind

Australian pair Stuart Appleby and Nathan Green have taken a share of the lead after the first round of the St Jude Classic. Appleby and Green finished the opening round at TPC Southwind on four under, alongside an American quartet of Martin Flores, Davis Love III, Glen Day and Harris English. In a strong finish to Thursday&aposs action in Memphis, Tennessee, Appleby birdied two of the last three holes to post a four-under 66, as did Day and Love III. Appleby produced a two-under bogey-free front nine and when he birdied the 10th hole, the 42-year-old Victorian looked on track for a good score to begin the PGA Tour event. A bogey on the par-four 13th hole seemed to halt Appleby&aposs momentum, until he notched consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th to claim a share of the overnight lead heading into Friday&aposs second round. Green carded a bogey-free 66, claiming a birdie on the par-four second hole to start the first round, before three more birdies followed on the back nine. The St Jude Classic&aposs leading six players hold a one-shot advantage over 11 players on three under. Of those 11 players at three under, Shawn Stefani went the closest to holding a share of the lead but bogeyed the par-four 18th late on Thursday. The 32-year-old Texan had eagled the par-five 16th hole to move to four under but slipped up on the 18th to card a three-under 67.
