Aussie trio in the hunt

Steve Allan, Jason Day and Andrew Buckle are all within three shots of the leader, American Kent Jones, after the opening round of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The Australian trio each kicked off their tournament with impressive three-under par rounds of 69. Jones posted four of his six birdies on the back nine to finish on top of the leader board at six-under par with a bogey-free round at the $7 million dollar (AUD) event. John Mallinger, Roland Thatcher and Brad Adamonis are one shot adrift on five under, while Jay Williamson is one of 10 players tied for third at 4-under. Mercedes-Benz Championship-winner Daniel Chopra headlines a group of 11 players at three under and defending champion and three-time tournament winner Phil Mickelson finished at one under. Matt Jones is the next best Australian at two-under par while Matthew Goggin finished the day at one-under the card. AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Round One -5 Roland Thatcher 43, D.A.
